Green Local Schools - Green High School Receives Energy Star Certification

Posted on 5/6/2016

Green High School recently received Energy Star Certification from the Environmental Protection Agency.   Only a small number of K-12 schools within Ohio are Energy Star certified with the current number at 292.  Receiving this certification puts Green High School into a distinctive group amongst its peers, as only 8 percent of the K-12 schools within Ohio receive certification.  This is also the first Energy Star Certification for the Green Local School District, adding to its impressive performance.

In 2015, the Green Local School District completed an Energy Conservation Program (Ohio School Facilities Commission House Bill 264 Project) with CCG Energy Solutions, Inc. The combination of the Green’s dedication and diligence to energy conservation and the improvements from the project enabled Green High School to qualify for the award with an Energy Star Rating of 82.

School buildings that have earned the Energy Star Certification use nearly 40 percent less energy than average buildings and emit 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, offering a significantly smaller carbon footprint. Buildings excel due to good energy management practices such as routine energy efficiency benchmarking.

Energy Star was introduced by the EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency.  Other Energy Star buildings include supermarkets, office, hotels, banks, hospitals, courthouses, warehouses, dormitories and big-box retail buildings.
