Akron Childrens Hospital Kay Jewelers Pavilion honored with Innovative Energy Project of the Year Award

Posted on 10/9/2016

CCG Automation, Inc. has received the Innovative Energy Project of the Year Award from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) for the Akron Children’s Hospital Kay Jewelers Pavilion project. The international award recognizes an innovative energy project which has significant impact to an organization or the community.

Akron Children’s Hospital completed construction of the new 368,735 ft2 medical tower in May 2015 utilizing the Integrated Lean Project Delivery® (ILPD®) method. The ILPD® process stresses mutual respect and open, honest collaboration amongst all team members while incorporating the Lean philosophies of modern manufacturing.

The occupants are enjoying an extremely comfortable building that is operating more efficiently than was anticipated during the design phase - consuming 38% less energy than the national median in a hospital facility – all while being built for $40 million under budget.  The tower houses the hospital’s new emergency department, neonatal intensive care unit and outpatient surgery center.

“In my career at three healthcare providers, I have never had a building that was as comfortable and energy efficient as the Kay Jewelers Pavilion,” said Betsy Pooley, director of Facilities at Akron Children’s Hospital. “There is no better way to validate a company’s true goals than to look at its performance – and this building is truly an award-winner.”

"When we work with an educated customer who is focused on the occupant comfort, energy efficiency and life-cycle cost - not just first cost - anything is possible,” said Brian Wagner, President at CCG Automation, Inc.

The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), founded in 1977, is a nonprofit professional society of more than 17,500 members in 98 countries. The mission of AEE is “to promote the scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry and to foster action for Sustainable Development.”

Akron Children's Hospital is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the U.S., and ranked among the best children's hospitals by U.S. News and World Report. Their dedicated staff handles nearly 800,000 patient visits each year through their 2 hospital campuses and a large network of locations offering primary and specialty care. They are leading the way to healthier futures for children and communities through expert medical care, research, prevention and wellness programs. As a teaching affiliate of Northeast Ohio Medical University and other universities, they train new generations of pediatricians, specialists and nurses every year.
