Hudson City Schools earns ENERGY STAR Leader RecognitionPosted on 10/19/2011 Owning a building that achieves top energy performance is a sign of good management, but owning a portfolio of buildings that achieves continuous improvement in energy performance demonstrates superior management and environmental leadership. ENERGY STAR partners who demonstrate continuous improvement organization-wide, not just in individual buildings, qualify for recognition as ENERGY STAR Leaders. Furthermore the EPA's recognizes ENERGY STAR Leaders by their portfolio-wide energy efficiency improvements in a 10%, 20%, 30%, or more category. Hudson City Schools has been recognized by EPA as an ENERGY STAR Leader for improving its district-wide energy efficiency by more than 20% compared to their baseline years. Additionally Hudson City Schools has earned a Top Performer for achieving an average ENERGY STAR energy performance score of 91 across its portfolio of buildings. Hudson City Schools joins only 7 other districts in the state of Ohio and 198 in the country that holds Top Performer recognition. Along with the energy and cost savings for the district, the positive environmental impact of this project extends far beyond this community. Reduced energy use by the Hudson City School District will prevent a significant amount of pollutants from being emitted into the atmosphere each year, including an estimated 1,912,900 lbs. of Carbon Dioxide, 20,671lbs. of Sulfur Dioxide, and 13,721 lbs. of Nitrogen Oxide. Combined, these energy savings are equivalent taking 141.70 cars off the road and saving 9.44 teachers’ jobs. Hudson City Schools provides education for 4,886 children, PreK-12, that maximizes the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of each child in a safe, nurturing, and diverse environment. They rank in the top 2% of Ohio districts, with an 11-year track record of Excellent and Excellent with Distinction ratings. Hudson High School is a 2008 National Blue Ribbon Award Winner. AP programs rank in the top 3% in the nation. 97% of their students attend four-year colleges. In 2010, five graduates received appointments to Federal Service Academies.
